Free H1 Tag Checker

Enter a URL to check if it has exactly one H1 tag. Missing H1s and duplicate H1s are common SEO issues that can reduce rankings.

Why H1 tags matter for SEO

The H1 is the main heading of your page — the first thing visitors read and a strong signal to Google about what the page covers. Every page should have exactly one H1 tag.

A missing H1 means Google has one fewer signal to understand your content. Multiple H1s dilute that signal and can confuse both crawlers and screen readers. Most CMS themes generate H1s automatically from page titles, but custom templates and blocks can easily introduce duplicates.

What we check

  • Missing H1 — flags pages with no <h1> element
  • Multiple H1 tags — flags pages with more than one <h1>

Best practice

Your H1 should match (or closely reflect) the page's title tag and target keyword. It should appear once, near the top of the page, and describe the page topic clearly.
